JULIE HELLER GALLERIES
CHRISTIE SCHEELE and MARY WALKER
September 16 - 29
Julie Heller East is pleased to present a two person show of new work by Christie Scheele and Mary Walker, opening Friday, September 16.
Christie Scheele’s paintings of Provincetown and its surroundings reduce the landscape to the essentials. As Scheele notes “my version of minimalism is about shape and atmospherics. I paint not just the light, but the air itself, and how these affect the edges and colors of the scenes.”
Whether it’s watercolors from France, oils from Ireland, or woodblock prints done in Provincetown, Mary Walker’s work is always inspired by the interaction between land, sea and sky. However, Walker’s fascination with people – with human comedy and tragedy – is what gives her work its playful and whimsical character.
These two very different approaches to painting will give this show an indisputable visual appeal. The show runs through September 29.
